The most important part of the guide is the resources available from the career center and taking advantage of Notre Dame connections. We are studying at a school with one of the biggest alumni networks in the country. There are many schools of equal calibre, but none with the Notre Dame family network and love for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame people love other Notre Dame people and are almost always willing to offer special help for another domer. Before applying to jobs, I wish I knew about all of the opportunities and networking events that the career center at Notre Dame offers. The career center offers quick resume reviews daily. They have drop in appointments for quick questions about companies, jobs, career paths, etc. They even have access to alumni contacts in different cities and working at a myriad of companies.
I think that Notre Dame does a great job focusing on learning and curriculum, but also teaching us how to network and apply for jobs. Students go to college in order to get into graduate school or get a job, but learning the subject matter is at the heart of the Notre Dame education. Students here are motivated to succeed in school, and in doing so are also driven to pursue a career path. I am an electrical engineer and most of the class has a job or graduate options lined up for after graduation. This is proof that Notre Dame is doing its job to both educate and prepare us for future jobs. Through education, both academically and socially, we inherently learn how to interview and apply for jobs. Because Notre Dame students are motivated individuals, then we will seek outside class opportunities to learn how to get a job and talk to employers.
